What exactly is

Permanent Makeup?

Stop struggling with the extra time and effort required to apply and re-apply your makeup each day. Get that look you really desire with permanent makeup, applied by a trained professional. Traditional permanent makeup (also known as PMU, or permanent cosmetics), is administered by a machine, and is completely safe. It is most often applied to the eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. Nano Brows

(Microblading)

Nano Brows are a cutting-edge alternative to traditional microblading, offering ultra-natural results using a machine and a single needle to create realistic, hair-like strokes. Unlike microblading, which uses a manual blade to cut the skin, Nano Brows are gentler and more precise, making them ideal for all skin types — especially sensitive or oily skin. This advanced technique allows for better pigment retention and longer-lasting results with less trauma to the skin. Nano Brows provide a soft, feathered look that mimics natural brow hair, making them perfect for clients seeking a refined, low-maintenance brow enhancement. At Maine Brow and Lash, we specialize in Nano Brows, delivering custom results that enhance your natural beauty.

Ombre Powder Brows

If you want soft but bold brows, the powdered ombre technique is the best choice. Instead of creating fine strokes of hair, we will place small dots of pigment into your eyebrows, which will give you a more intense look. Powder ombre brows are often lighter in the middle and darker towards the tip, creating a very natural look. This treatment is suitable for people with previous permanent makeup work, oily skin, or large pores.

Combo Brows

Combo brows is a technique that combines both microblading and shading for a more natural and fuller look. The shading gives the appearance of makeup through the microbladed hair strokes. Combo brows are perfect for clients with sparse eyebrow hair and oily skin.

Permanent Eyeliner

Eyeliner is a permanent cosmetic makeup also called tattooed eyeliner. Micro-droplets of colored pigment are inserted between your lashes and under your skin with a manual tool. The process can be completed over several passes during one appointment, or over the course of several appointments to monitor the color absorption. A numbing cream will be applied to reduce discomfort. The tattoo eyeliner color and shape is customized to your preference, however we recommend keeping permanent eyeliner as simple and natural as possible.

Lip Blush

Lip blush is a semi-permanent makeup treatment that enhances the natural color of the lips. Lip blushing provides a soft lip tint effect, rather than a full-on, opaque lipstick look. The most prominent difference between lip blushing and the traditional lip tattoo is that there is no distinctive contouring lip blushing. The desired result is a soft tint;, a blurred effect that looks luminous and with no sharp contour.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are synthetic individual lashes that are applied to the client’s natural eyelashes to add length, curl, thickness, and fullness. Natural eyelashes grow in and fall out in cycles, which occur every 60-90 days. On average, a person can lose up to 20% of their natural lashes every two weeks. As your natural lashes shed, the eyelash extension attached to the natural lash, will drop as well. Two to three weeks refill is recommended to maintain the full eyelash look. The client, together with the technician’s advice, have the option to select from the different length, curl, and fullness for the desired look. The initial session for a full set of eyelash extensions takes up to two hours to complete. Two to three weeks fill, and take about one hour to complete.

Brow Lamination, Shaping, and Tinting

Brow lamination, shaping, and tinting are the perfect trio for achieving fuller, more defined eyebrows without the need for permanent makeup. Brow lamination smooths and sets brow hairs into place, giving them a lifted, uniform shape that lasts for weeks. Paired with expert brow shaping through waxing or tweezing and a custom brow tint, this service enhances your natural brow structure and color for a polished, low-maintenance look. It’s ideal for anyone with unruly, thinning, or uneven brows looking for a clean, bold finish. At Maine Brow and Lash, our brow specialists tailor each treatment to your unique face shape and style, helping you wake up every day with perfectly styled brows.

Lash Lift & Tint

A lash lift is like a perm (but without chemicals like parabens or formaldehyde), for your natural eyelashes. It uplifts and curls them from the base of the lash, making them stand out and look longer. It’s paired with an eyelash tint, to enhance the defining effect. When finished, your eyes look larger, your lashes look longer and fuller, and your entire face looks uplifted. A lash lift and tint lasts 6-8 weeks and is super low maintenance!

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s designed to save you time, prevent repeated makeup spend, and give you confidence – as proven by clients who return year after year.

Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing that enhances your natural features by implanting pigment into the skin. It’s commonly used for brows, eyeliner, and lips, creating long-lasting definition and color that reduces the need for daily makeup. Techniques like nano brows, ombre powder brows, lip blushing, and tattooed eyeliner offer natural-looking results tailored to your individual style and skin tone. Permanent makeup is perfect for anyone wanting to save time, boost confidence, or achieve a polished, smudge-proof look every day. At Maine Brow and Lash, we specialize in safe, professional PMU services designed to enhance your natural beauty.

Most clients describe the sensation of permanent makeup as mild discomfort rather than pain. We use a high-quality, topical numbing cream before and during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but most people compare it to a light scratching or tickling feeling. Areas like the lips and eyeliner may be slightly more sensitive, but the process is generally very tolerable. At Maine Brow and Lash, your comfort is our priority — we take every step to ensure a calm, gentle experience.

After completion of the client’s medical history, necessary paperwork, and the initial consultation, the artist will use professional eyebrow measuring tools to pre-draw the eyebrows that best fit the client’s unique facial features, while keeping the symmetry and aesthetics in mind. Once the client approves of the size and shape, the artist will apply topical numbing cream over the brows. While waiting for the numbing to take full effect, the artist and the client will select the perfect eyebrow color together. Since microblading is a two-session process, we always recommend going a little more conservative during the first session. It is always easier to add than subtract. Once the color has been selected, and the skin has numbed, the artist will start microblading. The eyebrow microblading process takes about 20 minutes. Once completed, the new brows are revealed to the client, and the aftercare instructions are discussed.

Depending on the client’s skin type and skincare routine, microblading can last anywhere from 1-3 years. Individuals with oily skin tend to experience faster fading and might need touch ups every 6-12 months, while individuals with dryer skin might need touch ups every 12-18 months. Your eyebrows might not fully fade before your touch ups, but they will look lighter. Daily use of a facial exfoliator and routine professional facial peels can affect the longevity of the microbladed eyebrows.

In the week before your appointment, we recommend avoiding blood thinners, alcohol, aspirin, and retinol creams. On the day of your appointment, please don’t drink coffee or alcohol. For more detailed information, please read the instructions on the Pre / Aftercare page.

Absolutely! Microblading is an excellent option for individuals with no brows or missing brow hairs on certain areas.

We don’t recommend microblading to pregnant or nursing women. Please wait until  you are finished nursing for the safety of your and your child’s health.

Please refer to our Is Microblading/PMU Right For Me? page for in-depth information on this subject.

It depends on how the previous tattoo or permanent makeup has faded. The best cover-up would be 60% or slightly more faded. We will have to utilize a combo or shading technique to cover up the tattoo.

In the first seven days, you’ll need to avoid working out, wearing brow makeup, or getting your eyebrows wet. It takes nearly 30 days for the microblading to completely heal, in which time you may experience mild scabbing.

For more information on aftercare instruction, please visit our Pre / Aftercare page.

We design first, approve with you, and take a conservative approach so the result feels like you- only easier.
